FCGD closes twelfth edition with awards for operas primas y short films


The thirteenth edition of the FCGD will be held from January 29 to February 5, 2020 and the guest country is Spain.

(Santo Domingo, February 6, 2019) – The Peruvian feature film “Wiñaypacha”, the first film in the Aymara language, won the Best First Fiction Opera award of the twelfth Dominican Global Film Festival (FCGD), in which the documentary “Eduardo Galeano Vagamundo “won the Opera Prima Documental, it was announced at the closing of the cinematographic appointment, that this year he had as a guest country the Republic of Korea.

At the closing of the FCGD that was held at the Blue Mall Film Palace, the stage of the Festival, the Public Prize was also announced, which went to the Dominican film Colors, by Luis Cepeda.

While in the Global Short category the first place was for “A la deriva” (Dominican Republic), the second for “Madres de Luna” (Spain) and the third was “Ani” (Mexico).

The FCGD presented during these eight days a select list of more than 80 films and documentaries, as well as a wide agenda of educational activities, such as talks and conferences in which recognized figures associated with the film industry participated.

On the last day of the Festival were exhibited “Miriam lies”, “The Law of the Funnel”, “Dong Ju, The Portrait of a Poet”, “The Camarista”, “Eduardo Galeano Vagamundo”, “Colors”, “Wiñaypacha” and “The Nile Hilton Incident” and re-presented the Global Short competition.

The inaugural night, on January 30 at the Teatro Nacional, served as the world premiere of the movie “As if it were the first time”, by Mexican director Mauricio Valle, who was present at the event, as well as part of the cast of the film, and, in addition, a posthumous tribute was paid to the Dominican filmmaker Fernando Báez.

Among the special guests of the FCGD stood out the Spanish jurist Baltasar Garzón who attended the presentation of the documentary “The Code”, of which he is one of the protagonists.
