(Santo Domingo, January 23, 2023). The Santo Domingo Global Film Festival (FCGSD) began its program of training activities called Global Talks, with the development of two panels starring international guests.

“Professional cinematography unites the Caribbean and integrates it with the rest of the world,” was the topic of the panel in which Olivier Guyonvarch, French ambassador to Jamaica, and Patricia Monpierre, member of the Association for the Development of Author Cinema in Guadeloupe, participated. (APCAG).

Also Mariel Brown, producer of SAVANT Films and co-founder of FILMCO (The Filmmakers Collaborative from Trinidad and Tobago); Marie Claude Pernelle, representative of the CINUCA digital cinematheque, and José Enrique Domínguez, of the Dominican Cinematheque.

These panelists referred to the fact that the exhibition and conservation of the film cultural heritage is an essential task for the development of the industry.

Diplomacy in cinema, the preservation of Caribbean history and the development of Caribbean cinema were other topics addressed in these presentations.

“Puerto Rico: Empowerment of women in cinema” was the central theme of the second GlobalTalk of the day, in which Juliana Maité Irizarry, film director, participated; Vilma Liella, founder of Best Picture System (BPS); Alejandra Paola López, director and screenwriter; Julietta Rodríguez, actress, and Maritere Vélez, actress, screenwriter and teacher.

This discussion was attended by students from the Mauricio Báez High School interested in cinematographic activity and they interacted with the speakers who, through their personal stories, motivated them to pursue their passion for the world of cinema, but with a dose of reality since "not It is a godly industry.”

They agreed that “cinema is a means to connect,” as it unites both those who tell the story and those who enjoy it.
