Dominican Republic Global Film Festival (FCGD), in coordination with the Dominican Republic Film Commission (DGCINE), will be presenting for the first time at the Marché du Film of the Cannes Film Festival, through its new initiative DR Global in Cannes, the special screening of the dominican film Colours. This exhibition will take place on May 21 at 2:00 pm (France time), at the Palais G.

This dominican feature film, opera prima of the director Luis Cepeda, won the audience award, had more than three full house screening and was world premiered at last edition of FCGD 2019.

With this screening we have institutionalized, for the upcoming years, the DR Global in Cannes, bringing to the Marché du Film of the Cannes Film Festival those dominican films that obtain some recognition within the presentation at the FCGD. It is definitely serves as a new motivation for our filmmakers, and we are honored to present them in the framework of the most important film market in the industry, highlights Omar de la Cruz, director of FCGD.

Colours tell the story of a young artist who never signs her paintings (because she doesn’t feel that they are really finished) pursues her art career despite poverty and the opposition of her father. It has the stellar performances of Christian Álvarez, Francis Cruz, Stephany Liriano, Uxio Liz, and Olga Consuegra.

Cepeda expresses that the screening of Colours at the Marché du Film during the Cannes Film Festival is a great satisfaction for him and his entire team, as it is a way to continue opening new outlets for dominican cinema internationally.

I thank infinitely the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival and DGCINE for this great distinction, of which I am still pleasantly surprised. The dominican industry continues to grow with firm steps and transcendent productions, which I can see with pleasure how they are maturing year after year, adds its director.

In this regard, Yvette Marichal, film commissioner of the Dominican Republic, expresses: we are committed to supporting this initiative which compliments the efforts of our customary participation, through our pavilion, at the Marché du Film of the Cannes Film Festival.

An example of achievements, in 2018, is the co-production agreements obtained by the filmmaker Dilia Pacheco with Latin American countries and Romania. In the same order, the director José María Cabral achieved an international sales agreement for his film El proyeccionista. Showcasing our film productions in this market will continue to open doors for our filmmakers and reaffirm, even more, how easy it is to film in paradise, Marichal emphasizes.

The Marché du Film is the largest international community of film professionals. More than just an event, for the past 60 years, the Marché has been one of the key stepping stones in the creation, production and distribution of films around the world. Today, the Marché du Film draws its strength from the diversity of the actors it brings together. These professionals from all walks of life obtain financing, seize opportunities, take the pulse of international film creation, and are at the forefront of innovation.
