Director's Statement

“We are filmmakers. We are part of Iranian cinema. For us, living is creating. We create works that are not commissioned. Therefore, those in power see us as criminals. Independent cinema reflects its own time. It is inspired by society. And you cannot be indifferent to it. The history of Iranian cinema witnesses the constant and active presence of independent directors who have fought to roll back censorship and ensure the survival of this art. Along the way, some were banned from making films, others were forced into exile or reduced to isolation. And yet, the hope of creating again is a reason for being. No matter where, when or under what circumstances, an independent filmmaker creates or thinks about creation. We are filmmakers, independent.”

Festivals and awards

Juan Sebastián Vásquez: We had other similar stories in mind when we started talking about this project. They were all related to different topics of the emigration process and how important this situation is in a person's life. We wanted to create a film that showed the authoritarian power that a person has when they ask another person or a couple their reasons for emigrating, perhaps questions related to their origins, sexual orientation or skin color, above all. This can destroy lives, and we didn't want to create a film that only shows the immigration process, we also wanted to show the emotional repercussions.

Alejandro Rojas: It is a personal story, in a way, because we are both from Venezuela. It is based on events that have happened to us, in a similar way, or on stories from people we know.
