339: AMIN ABEL HASBUN, HISTORIA DE UN CRIMEN

Based on a true story, 339 Amín Abel Hasbún. Memory of a Crime reconstructs the murder of Amín Abel Hasbún, a prominent student leader and leftist activist in the Dominican Republic, accused of involvement in the kidnapping of U.S. Embassy official J. Crowley. Set against the backdrop of Joaquín Balaguer’s repressive government, Amín was one of many young militants who stood up against a regime built on political persecution and institutional violence.
His death deeply shook Dominican society, forcing Balaguer to order an official investigation, despite the fact that his own government was directly responsible for the crime. With a plot involving the CIA and the Dominican National Police, the film retraces the events of the morning of September 24, 1970, when Amín, his wife, and their two-year-old son received the fatal visit from the authorities, exposing a web of power, impunity, and historical memory.

En el contexto del gobierno represivo de Joaquín Balaguer, Amín fue uno de los muchos jóvenes que se enfrentaron a un régimen sostenido por la persecución política y la violencia institucional.
Su muerte sacudió profundamente a la sociedad dominicana, obligando al propio Balaguer a ordenar una investigación oficial, pese a que su gobierno estuvo directamente implicado en el crimen.
