Director's Statement

“I would like it to provoke dialogue and reflection on the issue of trans childhood. I hope it is a tool so that the public can enter into this reality that I have had the privilege of knowing thanks to all these families who have opened their doors to me. There is a lot of ignorance when it comes to judging their lives, because I don't think anyone chooses the most difficult path of their own free will. These people are going to have to navigate many complexities more than any other teenager. "They have chosen a path of struggle that I don't think anyone chooses on a whim."

He has won awards for Voces de papel (2016), a documentary, and Cuerdas (2022), a short film, while his first feature film, 20.000 species of bees (2023), has won a variety of awards at various film festivals.Urresola was born on May 4, 1984 in Llodio, located in the province of Álava in the autonomous community of the Basque Country in northern Spain. She has a degree in Audiovisual Communication from the University of the Basque Country, and in Film Editing from the International School of Film and Television. He has been working since 2011 in the Basque film and television industry. 20.000 species of bees was the Urresola's first feature film. Her goal was for the audience to feel the ups and downs of a family with a transgender girl. The inspiration for the story was the suicide of Ekai Lersundi in 2018. Ekai Lersundi was a 16-year-old transgender boy from Ondárroa who had waited in vain for hormonal treatment. Urresola was affected by the moving note Lersundi left to illustrate his desperation and his hope that disclosing her suffering could bring about social change. In addition to the festival awards that the film itself won and those that Urresola won as director, Otero won an award for best performance, Patricia López Arnaiz won an award for best supporting actress, and there were two awards for best female cast .
