TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR FILM REGISTRATION

The following terms and conditions (The Terms) govern the registration of a cinematographic work (The Film) for the Santo Domingo Global Film Festival (FCGSD) (The Festival), to be considered in this edition. 

The registration process will be carried out EXCLUSIVELY through the festival's official platforms, which will be announced in the call.

This document will take priority over any other document prepared by FCGSD or anyone else. Any requests or concerns related to these Terms should be sent by email to: [email protected].

THE APPLICANT DECLARE AND/OR COMMITS TO: 

  • That by registering a Film in the Festival for consideration, you have obtained the consent of each and every one of the owners, creators, writers, producers and/or any other natural or legal person related to it (“Legal representatives of the film”). ), whose consent may be required to proceed with the registration of the film at the Festival.
  • That they have settled the payment of the corresponding copyright for the script, images, music and/or any audiovisual or any other non-original material subject to intellectual property contained in the film.
  • That the film is completely original or adapted from another medium and is NOT a copy of pre-existing and/or registered original material. The film does not include any other work that is the subject of copyright or other protection, unless that work is in the public domain or the parties have submitted and obtained any and all consents, releases, licenses, and other clearances or waivers of all kinds necessary for the inclusion or reproduction of any person, character, location, thing, trademark, sound recording, musical composition or any other work in the film.
  • That the film does NOT present content that could be considered defamatory to any natural or legal person, nor does it violate common law or legal rights, including, without limitation, the rights of privacy and publicity or any other right of any natural or legal person.
  • That the film is NOT involved in any litigation process inside or outside the courts of any instance, category or country, for any reason.
  • That does NOT exist at the time of registration, is in process, nor will there be any agreement made subsequent to the date of registration, that could prejudice the right of the sending parties to provide the film as contemplated herein, or in conflict with any section of the Terms and Conditions.
  • That the films must be unpublished and not have participated in any other festival or event held in the territory of the Dominican Republic before the date of their presentation at the Festival. In this case, the films will be invalidated from the competition and/or participating in the Festival.
  • Grants the Festival the rights exclusively for promotional purposes of the Festival and/or for public communication or information of fragments of the literary work. These rights will in no case be for profit.
  • It will provide all the materials that are necessary or required for the promotion of the Festival, including written, graphic or audiovisual material, such as plot synopsis, technical and artistic sheets, pressbooks, photographs, trailers, posters or any other type of promotional material prepared for the Festival. diffusion of the film. Likewise, you authorize the dissemination and use of said materials in any medium.
  • That you are responsible for providing correct and functional contact information for the purpose of being used by the Festival when it deems necessary.

FILM REGISTRATION:

  • The films to be registered must be contained in one of the categories detailed below:
    • “Jimmy Sierra” First Fiction Opera Competition: 70 minutes or more, not including closing credits.
    • “Fernando Báez” Documentary First Feature Competition: 70 minutes or more, not including closing credits.
    • Short Film Contest “Global Fiction and/or Documentary Short” and “Global Animation Short”: 20 minutes or less, including closing credits. The directors of the short films must be within the age range of 18 to 55 years.
  • Complete the registration process through one of the platforms designated by the Festival, for which once completed you will receive a confirmation communication electronically. The Festival is not responsible for technical or any other type of failures in the registration process or incomplete processes that are not confirmed or validated in accordance with the established procedures.
  • Provide the Festival with an online link to the film for evaluation by the Festival programming staff.
  • Submission in any other physical form or format will NOT be considered valid for registration, including: read/write (RW) content, Blu-ray discs or DVD.
  • It will NOT be accepted to deposit the films physically directly at the Festival offices, without exception.
  • The film must have been sent to the Festival and be available for technical testing no later than 15 days before the opening night of this edition.
  • Films submitted to the festival through competition registration cannot require payment of screening fees. The payment of any cost related to the screening is subject to the sole and exclusive consideration of the Festival.
  • The Festival only allows DCP screening or downloadable digital link.
  • Films of any nationality and filmmakers from anywhere in the world can be submitted.
  • The number of films that each applicant can register is unlimited.
  • The official language of the country is Spanish. Films in another language must have mandatory Spanish subtitles and optional English subtitles.
  • A film will not be considered and must not be submitted if it was completed more than 18 months before the opening night of this edition, or if the film was previously submitted to the Festival for consideration at the Festival.
  • The representatives of the films that have been awarded agree to mention this award in all advertising and press material, using the Global Film Festival logo.
  • Representatives who register or have selected films release the Festival, the license owners, successors, members, officers, directors, employees, agents, representatives, associates and related parties, from any and all liability in the event of accidental theft, irregular access or unauthorized copying, or any consideration of infringement of the copyright of the film submitted while the film is in the possession of the Festival.
  • Participating in this competition implies full acceptance of the competition rules. The applicant declares that he or she has read and accepts all the Terms and Conditions and expresses his or her subjection to them and decisions of any kind made by the Festival.

THE FESTIVAL:

  • You may, but are not obligated to, disqualify or reject any registration that you determine, in your sole discretion, does not comply, in whole or in part, with these Terms.
  • It will appoint a selection committee or curators who will be in charge of choosing the finalists.
  • A jury made up of national and international film professionals will be responsible for selecting the winning films.
  • It will screen the films publicly during the Festival, according to the schedule determined by the event organization and the number of authorized screenings.
  • It does not assume responsibility for non-compliance in all matters related to copyright by the contestants.
  • All applicants who have been selected to participate in the Festival will be notified of the finalists two (2) weeks before the official announcement of this edition.
  • Will publicly notify the finalists of the competitions no later than one (1) month before the opening night of this edition through our website, social networks and any other means available.
  • All applicants who are not selected to participate in the Festival will be contacted by email two (2) weeks before the official announcement of this edition.
  • Will contact applicants using the contact information provided on the registration form. If you do not receive a response within the established period, you will not be responsible for the exclusion or any other decision related to the participation of the Film in the Festival.
  • Not responsible for any unsuccessful attempts to contact applicants using the contact information provided.
  • It will take into consideration for inclusion in the Festival all eligible films that have been registered within the deadlines announced in the initial call and in accordance with these Terms.
  • The right is reserved to consider, for inclusion in the festival, the films received, at any time and through any means, channel or process, including means, channels or procedures other than those described in these Terms and Conditions.
  • You are not required to consider inclusion of any film submitted through the process described in these Terms and Conditions.
  • He has sole, absolute and unappealable discretion in all selection decisions.
  • You are not required to provide comments or reasons, or any other information, regarding the selection or non-selection of any film submitted or regarding the process by which films were or were not selected.
  • You are not responsible during or after the selection process; of the contents of any internal comments or comments about the film - which are or may be - about the applicant or about any other person; nor about any communication from any representative of the Festival regarding the Film or its selection process.
  • Take all reasonable precautions against piracy. While the films are in the possession of the festival, they are stored securely and inventoried regularly. Access to films is limited to festival staff who require access in order to protect and consider submissions. Duplication and loan of the film is not permitted.
  • It will have the decision to consider invitations to people related to the film's production team and for such purposes it will determine the coverage of expenses related to air and local transportation, lodging, subsistence allowances or other items that could be considered. 
  • It reserves the right of selection, and may disqualify, reject or make the decision not to present any film that does not comply with any of these terms or conditions, set out above or for any other reason that it internally considers valid.
  • The right is reserved to include new clauses or modifications to existing ones, without prior communication or individual notice to participants. In this case, the Terms and Conditions will be updated in the media regularly used by the Festival or those considered appropriate.

PORTICO SPORT AWARDS

  • The presentation of the award certificates will take place on the closing night of this edition of the FCGSD. In recognition, the winners will receive statuettes.
  • The amount of the prizes, if any, will be announced on the opening night of this edition.
  • The Festival Jury undertakes to view all the films in competition in their respective category, in order to issue their decision. He will act under the guidelines and instructions of the Jury Coordination who will have the exclusive role of facilitator in the award process and related activities.
  • The festival assumes all award decisions of the Jury absolutely and without appeal.
  • It undertakes to communicate to the winners within a period of no more than three (3) days the results of the winners of each edition. Likewise, it will use the means it considers necessary to disseminate them, such as social networks, websites and any other means of official promotion, which will also be considered valid in the event of not being able to establish direct communication with the representatives of each film for any reason. reason.
