Tribute to Kate del Castillo

KATE DEL CASTILLO has worked in soap operas and films since her early youth. He first captured American audiences in 2007 with his award-winning performance in the Fox Searchlight/Weinstein hit film “Under the Same Moon,” which still ranks among the top 10 highest-grossing Spanish-language theatrical releases in U.S. history. He followed up with a recurring role on the hit television series “Weeds.” In 2011 she starred in the popular series “La Reina del Sur”, which is currently having renewed success on Netflix and has since been adapted into English on the American network.

Her talent is versatile, with courageous performances in “Trade” opposite Kevin Cline and in “Julia” co-starring Tilda Swinton. In 2012 he gave two critically acclaimed performances, the first in the Spanish-language film “Colosio” and the second in the English-language film “K-11,” in which he played a transsexual man. He also guest starred on the television series Grimm. In 2014, he lent his voice to “Death” in Guillermo Del Toro’s Golden Globe-nominated film “The Book of Life,” had a key role alongside Idris Elba in the hit film “No Good Deed,” and released a successful thriller in Spanish called, “Visitors”. In 2015, he starred alongside Antonio Banderas in “The 33,” a film based on the true story of trapped Chilean miners, and also had a recurring role on the popular television series “Jane the Virgin.”

Kate has enjoyed great success on Netlifx. Along with the first two seasons of the original series, “Ingobernable”, which she stars in and co-produces. Then came “The Day I Met Chapo,” the acclaimed three-part documentary, which she also co-produced, about her now infamous encounter with Sean Penn and the notorious fugitive drug lord, and finally, the record-breaking “La Reina Del Sur 2.” rating on Telemundo and is now, along with “La Reina Del Sur 1”, one of the most watched Spanish series on Netflix. In 2020, Kate starred in the box office hit “Bad Boys for Life,” alongside Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, establishing Kate Del Castillo as a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood.

In addition to being a successful actress, producer, and businesswoman, Kate is also an outspoken activist and humanitarian. She was named Ambassador of the Mexican Human Rights Commission to help combat human trafficking. She is also a spokesperson for PETA and has received numerous Humanitarian awards and recognitions, including the key to the City of Los Angeles, where she currently resides. She owns her own tequila brand, “Honor Del Castillo,” and in 2019 became a partner in MMA’s “Combate Americas” and founded her all-female production company, Cholawood Productions, which currently has a development deal with the creator of global content Endemol Shine Boomdog.
