Director's Statement

It's a story that is very personal to me. It came from how I felt at a pretty dark time in my adolescence, something I think a lot of gay teenagers go through. I was born into a community that saw things through two lenses: conservatism and superstition. There was a sense of magic in that superstition that always attracted me. I took that dark time and fused it with the mythology of my own city, to bring a message of hope to young people who suffer abuse for being different.
