Director's Statement

In Catalan children are called “creatures”. In Latin it is “creature” and the root of the word is creation. If a creature is a creation, it implies that there is a creator. Since the film talks about emotional education and family inheritances, it seemed like a very nice idea to think that children are products of their parents, and make that play on words. The space has a family burden. Many times a change of space causes the opening of old wounds, a latent theme suddenly finds a place to unfold. And that space is also the body. There are many filmmakers (Claire Denis, Catherine Breillat, Julia Ducournau) who articulate their creative discourse around the body. One of the books that has moved me the most lately is “El cos i altres festes” by Carmen María Machado, and “Titane” is of the films that have affected me most intimately in the last ten years. Growing up has to do with accepting yourself and reconciling with a house, which is your body, in which you have not always felt welcomed, especially when you have been receiving an external vision that disconnects you a lot from physical sensations and connects you with aesthetics.
