THE CRIMINALS

Trailer

Synopsis

In Los Delincuentes, the routine lives of two bank employees, Morán and Román, are shattered when Morán steals a small fortune from the bank vault. While he flees, he glimpses a possible alternative to the gray life he leads and, furthermore, falls in love. But he is forced to choose between this radical alternative and going ahead with his heist plans, so he resigns himself to a brief stay in prison. His colleague Román, in possession of the stolen money against her will, feels trapped by the secret he keeps; His paranoia increases until he too finds a way out, and he too discovers a new love. But, united by their common destiny (accentuated by the similarity of their names), the two protagonists will inevitably meet again.

Director's Statement

“Many years ago, Hernán Musaluppi, who was the producer of El custodio, proposed to me to make a contemporary remake of ‘Just a criminal’ because I had the possibility of buying the rights. I liked the movie but I wasn't interested in doing a remake. I was left with the challenge of turning it around, of doing something else, of ignoring the question of rights and being tied to comparisons: taking the premise but going the other way. A recurring problem in my filmography is alienation and above all the use of time as an existential issue, which can be in relation to work, but also to leisure. The criminals work in those two areas. It's not that you plan these things, you don't start from a manifesto. You realize it in the process and even more so now with the finished film. From the script I always conceived a film that would house several universes at the same time, a story with many very different characters and settings."
